Fifth-year defensive lineman Ray McDonald was recently arrested on an early Sunnyvale morning on an outstanding warrant for a 2010 DUI arrest, according to the San Jose Mercury News.

McDonald was arrested for driving under the influence in San Mateo County back in June of 2010.

According to the newspaper, he apparently didn't provide the court with required proof that he completed a first-offender mandated DUI program.

Sunnyvale law enforcement pulled McDonald over at about 2:30 on a Wednesday morning for an apparent traffic violation. After officers received information about the arrest warrant, the former University of Florida star was taken into custody and transported to Santa Clara County Jail.

A Sunnyvale police department spokesperson said no other charges were filed against the former third round pick.

"He was cooperative and no problems," the spokesperson said.

McDonald signed a five-year deal worth a reported $20 million last summer.

He became the second 49ers player arrested in a two-week period. Linebacker Aldon Smith was arrested on a DUI charge in late January in Miami Beach.

Smith reportedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.194 percent and 0.175 percent on two breathalyzer tests.

After his 2010 arrest, McDonald told members of the media that he was sorry for the distraction and that his goal was to help the team win games.

It's not known if he will face any league sanctions for the recent arrest.

A DUI arrest can bring about a host of problems -- even for NFL stars -- including possible jail time, significant fines, loss of driving privileges, increased auto insurance premiums and more.
