One of California's most popular baseball players has found himself and his family embroiled in controversy. Los Angeles Angels star player Torii Hunter was placed on the team's restricted roster earlier this month after the pro's teen son was arrested for sexual assault of a child in a Dallas suburb. The 17-year-old was apprehended in the case on May 14, according to reports from Texas officials.
The investigation in the case had been going on for more than a month, according to the arresting officials. Sexual assault of a child is a second-degree felony in the state.

A dozen people across the Bay Area were arrested yesterday in what authorities said was an effort to break a Santa Clara County drug trafficking operation.
Suspects were arrested in East Palo Alto, Oakland and Hayward, officials said. The group reportedly deals in heroin and methamphetamine.

A 23-year-old Santa Clara man accompanying a missing 16-year-old San Jose girl on a Valley Transportation Authority light-rail train has been accused of sex crimes involving the teen, law enforcement officials said last week.
The pair was stopped shortly before four in the afternoon last Thursday for failure to have valid passes while riding the train, the Santa Clara County Sheriff's Office said.

An assistant principal at a San Jose high school is facing sexual assault accusations after his arrest last week.
The Leland High School administrator, 32, is charged with having unlawful sexual contact with a student at the school last year.

Fifty miles north of San Jose sits the city of Concord, California. That's where West Covina State Assemblyman and assistant majority whip Roger Hernandez was charged with a pair of misdemeanor counts of driving under the influence.
The drunk driving arrest was in March, according to court records.

A former San Jose police officer who pleaded no contest to a pair of sex crimes allegations was set for sentencing next week, but that hearing has now been moved to May.
The 44-year-old initially faced three charges of unlawful sexual contact with minors; incidents prosecutors said happened between December of 2008 and March of 2009.
